I had just returned form my mission to Spain that previous Fall & Josh had returned to BYU from his mission in January 2001. It was February 2001. I was a Senior at BYU set to graduate in April 2001. He was a sophmore with 2 1/2 more years of schooling left to go. I was 23. He was 21, turning 22 in April as well.
My twin sister Molly had just had her first baby and I was hoping to get on the married with children track soon. I had been dating someone on and off again since October. We were not currently dating but spending time together.
We lived in Centennial 2. When January came and along with it a new Semester with new students, I look at all of the new people in the ward who had moved in- hoping to find a potential person to date. I was graduating that semester and wanted to get married before I left BYU- the promised land of eligible Mormon bachelors. I saw Josh and decided that no one had moved in that I was interested in.
February 4th was a Sunday- the first day we met. I had just gotten back from my sister’s baby blessing in Salt Lake and had missed the Stake Conference Church meeting where the speaker said “throw out your lists of who you should marry.” Josh threw out his list 🙂
It was my roommate Annette’s birthday and she went from apartment to apartment, inviting people to come over for some birthday cake and ice cream. Josh came for the free food.
I lived there and so I was there and we met. I asked him what his major was and he said math. I contemplated ending the conversation there. We chatted- nothing big and he went to sit on the couch. The light fro the lamp was shining on his head- making it look like it was glowing gold. I was smitten. My heart wanted to claim it’s prize.
Later that night I went over to his apartment to play cards. I didn’t know it was his, so when he walked in, I was thrilled! He made a joke about red heads and then apologized to me. I didn’t think I had red hair, so I thought it was funny.
We started up a conversation and talked and talked. He found out that I had served a mission in Spain and spoke Spanish and that impressed him. I thought he was smart and could keep up well with my train of thought.
The next day was Monday and I was hoping to see him again. All evening he was gone. Finally, late in the evening, his light was on and there he sat studying with the light shining on his beautiful head again. I had to get over there!
I made up the excuse of needing a thesaurus (since there was no google then) and went to every apartment hoping that they wouldn’t have one so I could reach Josh’s apartment. I went to four apartments- nothing. Finally, I got to Josh’s apartment and I walked on in.
They did have a thesaurus! We talked and talked and I liked him and was impressed with everything he said. The ball was now in his court! Wednesday night I was playing scrabble on the floor of my apartment with the boy I had been dating on and off again. I saw Josh walk past my window! I really wanted him to come in and was hoping, hoping that he would!
He walked past, turned and then came in! I was so glad! We chatted and he said that a bunch of people were getting together to see a comedy troupe called Divine Comedy and asked if we would like to go. I said I would love to. My friend realized the situation and said he would pass.
Then the old boyfriend and the new potential boyfriend learned that they had both served a mission in Brazil and they then left and headed to the old boyfriend’s apartment to chat. Boy, was I surprised! I hoped my old beau wouldn’t reveal any negative things about me 😉
Josh says the old beau asked him if he wanted to date me. Josh said that he wanted to get to know me better and the old beau said he approved of me. Oh, good!
Friday the 9th came and I had a long day of student teaching. I came home and remembered that we never had set up a time for our date. I couldn’t really tell if we were still going.
When I didn’t hear from him and my roommate invited me to a play, I nervously went. I didn’t want to say I had a date and tell all the details.
When we got back, after stopping for slurpees, I had missed several calls from Josh. I felt badly that I had made him wait. We still could catch the late show, so he came over and we took my car and left.
We had an amazing time! Josh was kind, funny, forgiving, caring and cute. We laughed and laughed! At the end of our first date, we came home. He didn’t ask me out for another day and I was heartbroken.
He did come over to my apartment on Sunday and ask me out for the next weekend. I was relieved!
He liked me!
Lavender in Mascara: Put a drop of Young Living Lavender Essential Oil in your mascara wand. The Lavender helps with hair growth. I’ve done it for the past three or four months and have loved the change I’ve seen in my lashes.
Teeth Whitening: Place a drop of Young Living Orange Essential Oils on top of your normal toothpaste. Brush and rinse. The Orange helps your teeth become white.
A Cleaner Trash: Place a drop of lemon/purification on a cotton ball and place under your trash can liner for a fresh, clean scent. When I do this the smells lasts for several days and I love it!
A drop of lemon/lime in your water/tea or Diet Coke. As long as you’re getting the oils into your system, I don’t care how you do it! Yum!!
Last one- Take a bottle of Peppermint with you and breathe it in while you study/drive/read with your children at bedtime. It will wake you up and keep you alert for those tasks.
Enjoy these hacks & I will have more to come!
